II. School Profile

School category: Jing’an Temple Subdistrict Community School is a citizen school with full organic strength established through making full use of the idle educational resources of the institutions in the community on weekends and collaborating with the social forces. It is a non-profit community school built by the masses and run by the trainees themselves under the guidance and coordination of the government and with the generous support of the institutions in the community.

 

Purpose of the school: to observe the principle “making school available to everyone who needs learning”, cater to the needs of community development, enrich the cultural life in the community, edify the moral qualities of citizens, and imperceptibly raise their ideological and ethical standards. It is aimed at improving the urban civilization, upgrading the scientific and cultural qualities of citizens and raising people’s living standards.

 

Guidelines: opening a variety of courses according to the needs of citizens, satisfy the intention to learn of citizens at different levels, bring into full play the radiating function of community schools, use the school as a platform in developing an educational mechanism suitable for communities, building blocks and families, and promote its sustainable development.

 

School buildings and sites of school activities: primarily a four-story teaching building (having 20 classrooms) in Shixi Primary School, 2 classrooms owned by the subdistrict (library and recreational room for the elderly), and other sites at Jing’an Park, etc.

 

Courses offered: knowledge centered: English, Japanese and Cantonese; skill-centered: flower arrangement, weaving, Chinese knot, wool knotting, computer, digital computer, cuisine and photography; recreation-centered: piano, dancing, fashion show, vocal music, traditional Chinese painting, calligraphy, Hu Opera, Yue Opera, Peking Opera, accordion and flute; lectures: health, and current affairs & politics. All together, there are over 30 courses.

 

Faculty: Teachers are recommended by the institutions and individuals in the community or self-recommended. We have 5 full-time teachers and 31 part-time teachers, of whom, 36 have junior-college education or above and 11 have senior professional and technical titles.
